Vocal Audition Requirements
Entering Freshman Choir
- Clap and count aloud a rhythm given by Mrs. Fraley or Miss Sullivan
- Know current repertoire to be able to sing a simple phrase from one of the songs
- What do they currently sing and why?
Entering Concert Choir
- Sing a major scale in tune ascending and descending with one breath if needed, ♩=88
- Sight read 4 measures based on a tonic chord using whole, half, quarter, dotted notes and single eighth notes
- Clap and count aloud: a combination of whole, half, quarter, 8th, and 16th notes in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4
- Know current repertoire to be able to sing independently and/or against 3 other parts, and/or with accompaniment
Entering Advanced Choir
- Sing a major scale in tune ascending and descending with one breath if needed, ♩=88
- Sing a minor scale in tune ascending and descending with one breath if needed, ♩=88
- Sight read 4 measures based on a tonic chord using whole, half, quarter, dotted notes and single eighth notes
- Clap and count aloud: a combination of whole, half, quarter, 8th, 16th, dotted half and quarter notes in different time signatures
- Know current repertoire to be able to sing independently and/or against other parts, and/or with accompaniment
Continuing Advanced Choir
- Sing a major scale in tune ascending and descending with one breath if needed, ♩=88
- Sing a minor scale in tune ascending and descending with one breath if needed, ♩=88
- Sing a chromatic scale in tune ascending and descending with one breath if needed, ♩=88
- Sight read 8 measures based on a diatonic scale using whole, half, quarter, dotted notes and single eighth notes, and rests of comparable value
- Clap and count aloud: a combination of whole, half, quarter, 8th, 16th, dotted notes and rests in different time signatures
- Know current repertoire to be able to sing independently and/or against other parts, and/or with accompaniment
