A Letter from the Director – 2015/16

Dear Members of the WHS Choirs,

I anticipate a year of good times and musical growth! I can’t wait to see how we grow together this year through many rehearsals, performances and fun destinations.

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce the addition of Mr. Robert Cannon to our Choral staff as full time Assistant Director. New horizons come with this addition! We will bring back Massillon’s proud tradition of having men’s chorus and women’s chorus participate in large group adjudicated event once again. This wonderful change will also allow us to add three courses, Music Theory, Music Appreciation, and a Music Composition, to Massillon’s high school music curriculum.

Here we are, at the cusp of a new year full of the potential for great success. How do you want your choir experience to be this year? Talent comes from the discipline of working diligently every day. Excellence requires that we keep the end goal in mind! Desire to be the best and be willing to work harder than anyone else to get there. Let your love of the music show through in every performance!

There are many people here to help you be successful. Mr. Cannon and I will do the best that we can to prepare you for excellence. Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Conti, Miss Criss, and Mrs. Ferrel will offer vocal coaching, the crux of our program and a must for anyone participating in S&E or considering auditioning for Washingtonians. Our choir officers will offer you guidance and leadership. I know from talking to them, they are excited about this year, have high expectations, and want the best for your choir experience.

Let’s continue to strive for excellence in everything we do. Our choir family is a uniquely exceptional group of students working together for towards the common goal of musicalexcellence. Commit this year to do whatever it takes to maintain the long standing Massillon tradition of greatness. Show your choir pride in your work ethic in and out of the classroom.

Chorally yours,

Mrs. Riley
